Born in Puerto Rico, Anibal Hernández started his studies in trombone at La Escuela Libre de Música de Arecibo and completed his studies in trombone earning a Bachelor Degree in Music from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico under Dr. Luis Fred and his Masters Degree in Music from Western Michigan University with Dr. Steve Wolfinbarger where he received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship and the WMU Music Alumni and Friends Endowment.
Trombonist Anibal Hernández joined the Greater Miami Youth Symphony in 2019. Prior to joining GMYS he was part of Carnival Entertainment for 3 years as part of the Horn Trio, Playlist and Showband. In his experience as a freelance musician Anibal has played with several latin american artists like Christian Castro, Luis Fonsi, Kany García, Cultura Profética, Vicente García, Millo Torres y el Tercer Planeta, Humberto Ramírez’ s Big Band among many others. He has also played in numerous Broadway Musical Productions around the United States and Puerto Rico.
Mr. Hernández is the recipient and winner of several awards and competitions as a soloist and as a member of ensembles; among them Winner in The Sanromá Interdepartmental Competition, Soloist with the Puerto Rico Youth Symphony Orchestra, Finalist in the Western Michigan University Concerto Competition, WMU Research and Creative Activities Day and the WMU Chamber Music Festival Competition.He has been a participant in many prestigious trombone masterclasses and seminars; among them the Joe Alessi Residency in Puerto Rico, the Cleveland Trombone Seminar, Mulcahy Summer Seminar, Third Coast Retreat and was recently accepted as a participant for the Christian Lindberg Masterclass in Lübeck.
As a music educator Anibal was the low brass instructor at the Program Musica 100×35 and the trombone instructor for the Preparatory Division both programs of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. Mr. Hernandez served as the Associate Band Conductor at Miami Arts Charter School and Somerset Preparatory Academy Homestead.
